Our students'

Achievements

The John Dewey Academy dedicates itself to placing our graduating seniors at colleges commensurate with their innate intelligence and talents—usually at colleges with reputations far beyond what an arriving student’s recent grades would warrant. Students who attend Dewey have often compiled mediocre academic records in the troubled years prior to their arrival at the school. Sometimes they (and their families) have given up hope of attending a good college. Nonetheless every single graduate of The John Dewey Academy attends college at a quality four year institution. The school works intensely with admissions officers, parents, and students to continue its twenty-five-year record of placing students at excellent colleges all over the country.

Our commitment to

Excellence

Like other top college-preparatory schools, we take pride in the caliber of colleges that admit our graduates. More importantly, we are encouraged by their performances at those institutions of higher learning: Our graduates typically earn good grades, engage in many extracurricular activities, and go on to excellent jobs or graduate schools. Nearly forty percent make the Dean's List, seventy-five percent graduate college in four years, and thirty percent attend graduate or professional school.

In recent years, colleges of quality have been deluged with good candidates and have therefore been able to raise their admissions standards. To ensure that admissions offices understand the valuable contribution our graduates can make to a college campus, the Head of School advocates aggressively for students who become moral leaders and pursue their studies with energetic commitment. Thus, John Dewey continues to place its seniors in excellent colleges.
